Joyce Gonzalez, APRN

Joyce Gonzalez Alvarez, MSN, FNP-C, ARNP, is a bilingual Family Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in ophthalmology and vitreoretinal patient care. She currently practices at Retina Macula Specialists of Miami, where she has worked for more than ten years in progressive clinical and leadership roles, providing comprehensive patient care and supporting advanced retinal treatments.

Joyce earned her Associate Degree in Nursing in Miami, Florida, and later completed her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Miami Regional University. She is board certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Before becoming a nurse practitioner in the United States, Joyce practiced as an ophthalmologist in Cuba, where she completed her medical training in 2006. Since then, she has maintained a strong focus in ophthalmology, bringing nearly two decades of experience in eye care across different healthcare systems.

Prior to her current role as a nurse practitioner, Joyce spent over a decade working in ophthalmology as a clinical manager and senior ophthalmic technician. In these roles, she assisted with diagnostic testing, intravitreal injection preparation, visual field testing, patient education, and clinical workflow management, while also training technicians and supporting daily clinic operations. The majority of her career in the United States has been dedicated to Retina Macula Specialists of Miami.

Joyce is fluent in English and Spanish and is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. Her clinical interests include ophthalmology, chronic disease management, preventive care, and patient education.
